|  | Hamdan bin Rashid Inaugurates DUPHAT 2009Mar 29, 2009 - 04:55 - WAM Dubai, 29th March 2009 (WAM) - H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority, inaugurated today the International Pharmaceuticals '&' Technologies Conference '&' Exhibition - (DUPHAT 2009), at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition centre. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied by a number of ministers and local and international representatives and with heads of delegates. Following the traditional inauguration ceremony and the ribbon-cutting, Sheikh Hamdan congratulated the organising committee for the success of DUPHAT conference and exhibition for the past fourteen years, as a continuing education forum and a platform for professional interaction and scientific discourse. He also had a tour in the exhibition and explored the latest Pharmaceutical Technologies displayed by national, regional and international pharma industry. He was impressed by the continuous growth achieved every year, he also said that this tremendous turnout reinforces the role of Dubai as a regional hub for major international companies who are looking forward to promoting their products from Dubai to the Middle East and the world Market. On the other hand, H.E Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director General - Dubai Health Authority said "The Dubai Health Authority is always keen to support all Conferences and Exhibitions that add value to the health sector in the UAE and the region in general. ''DUPHAT is classified as one of the major exhibitions specialized in the latest technical updates from the pharmaceuticals industry on regional and international levels, as it is recognized and accredited by the Dubai Health Authority and many international scientific organizations that serve the Pharmaceutical industry". Al Murooshid also said that "despite the fact that the pharmaceutical sector in the region is still young, yet the local pharmaceutical industry in the Gulf is growing rapidly as the volume of the pharmaceutical market exceeded $4 billion in the Middle East and North Africa. It is also growing at rate of 10% annually, which is almost twice higher than the growth rate of the global pharmaceutical market. The UAE is almost a net importer of Pharmaceutical products." He also added that "The Dubai Health Authority is keen to support all the associations that are working along with the health sector. We are also keen to provide and encourage training courses and continuous education programs for pharmacists, to raise the level of their performance." Dr. Ali AL Sayed, Director of Pharmaceutical Services Department, at the Dubai Health Authority and the conference chairman said "DUPHAT Conference and Exhibition is one of the biggest events in the region. The conference includes 19 high quality lectures and 15 workshops delivered by 30 renowned speakers, whom are deans, university professors, consultants, and seniors from prestigious pharmaceutical associations that are covering a variety of specialized pharmaceutical topics. In addition DUPHAT includes 17 parallel Presentations delivered by outstanding speakers that shall be featured parallel to the Conference and Exhibition. Concurrent with the three-day event there shall be 32 Professional Poster Presentations and 55 Student Poster Presentations. Posters will be evaluated by a jury from highly reputed universities." He added "DUPHAT will also feature 8 artistic works presented by elementary school students. Their works shall tackle health in general and spread awareness among society to upgrade their health culture". Dr. Ali also pointed out that "DUPHAT conference will discuss important scientific topics that are related to pharmacy, particularly; applications of pharmaceutical outcomes research, quality measurement in pharmacy practice, the promotion of effective rational and safe use of medicines, and the effect of genetic differences on the response to treatment and the outcome of these treatments. The conference will also highlight the role of the pharmacists in spreading awareness among community to reduce unhealthy habits such as smoking. The conference will also help to develop the pharmacist's skills and upgrade the quality of pharmaceutical services provided and introduce better tourism medication. He also added that DUPHAT 2009 features distinguished pharmacy professionals from all over the world, speakers from USA, UK, Australia, Japan, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Poland, Spain, France and the Middle East whom shall present their latest perspectives on pharmaceutical science and technology. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of DUPHAT and president of Index Holding, said "Over the years, DUPHAT conference and exhibition was able to obtain a distinctive place in the world of pharmacy. Pharmacists and pharmaceutical manufacturers from the region and the Middle East are looking forward for it every year, as it aims to create an arena for mutual interaction between professionals, students and academics of pharmaceutical science, moreover, it helped pharmacists to improve their performance throughout a scientific program that features Pharmacy Workshops, presentations by outstanding speakers, and many other activities during the three-day Conference and Exhibition." Al Madani also assured that "more than 300 international companies are participating in DUPHAT 2009, and the exhibition space is 20% bigger compared to last year. 90% of the exhibitors are coming from Europe, Asia, USA, Canada, and Australia. The companies expressed their enthusiasm to discover the Gulf and Middle Eastern pharmaceutical market. He also mentioned that a large group of Chinese companies are participating for the first time with DUPHAT." He continued "The world has changed and patients had become more aware of their diseases and the medication and treatment they are taking, and accordingly the science and art of Pharmacy is evolving, and pharmacists are embracing new and unique professional roles. DUPHAT as a scientific gathering enables participants to meet and interact with professionals from the industry and provides continuing medical education, in addition to new technologies displayed by international pharmaceutical companies at the exhibition." DUPHAT conference and exhibition will run until the 31st of this month, featuring a comprehensive scientific program that includes pharmacy workshops, presentations, poster presentations and student poster session and competition during the three-day Conference and Exhibition.
