2009-04-08 21:23:44
WAM Dubai, Apr 08th, 2009 (WAM): A senior official at the UAE Labour Ministry said that the ministry is investigating the truth about what was claimed by a BBC documentary that a number of labour camps in Dubai were filthy and overcrowded.

Acting Executive Director of Inspection Affairs at the ministry, Maher Al Oubed said that the ministry has reviewed the content of the BBC's Panorama Show which was aired on 6th April showing footage of certain labour camps in Dubai claiming that they were in violation of the rights of the workers in the construction field.

He asserted that as per directives from Minister of Labour HE Saqr Ghobash, the ministry is currently investigating the truth about these claims, as it has sent a team of inspectors to visit these camps and report back to the ministry.

The ministry will take punitive measures against any firm if found violating the law of the country, he stressed.
