11 workers escape death in six-story building collapse in Dubai

WAM DUBAI, Aug. 16th, 2009: Eleven construction workers escaped death when the facade of a six storey building nearing completion collapsed today midday in Dubai. The 11 workers managed to get out the building upon noticing signs of an imminent collapse of the building which is located near Ramada Hotel across the street from Dubai Police H.Q. The engineer who is in-charge of the site confirmed that all the 21 workers, including those who managed to exit the building, were not injured. An immediate search operation using by police sniffer dogs also confirmed that no victims are under the debris. Deputy Chief of Dubai Police Major General Khamis Mattar Al-Mazeina, Director General Dubai Civil Defense Major General Rashid Al-Matrooshi, Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Head, Dubai Police CID and Director of the Anti-Narcotics Unit at Dubai Police Brigadier Abdul Jalil Mehdi rushed to the scene immediately when the incident was reported to the operation Room at Dubai Police. Debris of the collapsed building in being removed now. An investigation into the causes of the incident is being conducted by Dubai Police. WAM/MMYS
