DIB donates AED5 million to Zakat Fund

WAM Abu Dhabi, Aug. 29, 2009 (WAM) -- Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has donated AED5 million to the Zakat Fund (ZF), it was revealed when Dr. Hadif bin Jowan Al-Dhahiri, Justice Minister and ZF Board Chairman, received at the ZF premises here today Abdul Razak Al-Abdullah, DIB Chief Executive, in the presence of Abdullah bin Aqeed Al-Muhairy, ZF Secretary General. Dr. Al-Dhahiri commended the DIB for the generous donation which, he said, reflects the DIB's social and charity philosophy, adding that the donation will serve a large segment of the needy in the society. Al-Muhairy, for his part, said cooperation between the ZF and Islamic institutions, particularly the DIB, aims at improving the scope of ZF's assistance to cover higher number of the needy and increase the volume of the assistance the ZF gives them to help alleviate their sufferings. He underscored the strong ties between the ZF and the DIB. He said such cooperation would further boost charity and social works in the UAE. Al-Abdullah praised the ZF, which he described as a minerate of charity and social works in the UAE. He said the ZF continues to perform as envisaged by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, adding that his outfit will try to increase the its donation to the ZF in the near future. WAM/SA
