Senegal hails humanitarian initiatives of UAE President

WAM Abu Dhabi, Oct 18th, 2009 (WAM)--Senegalese Charge De Affairs and Ext. Potentiary to the UAE Mamadou Kon, has lauded the humanitarian initiatives shouldered by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to ease burden on people in the conflict and calamity zones, particularly in Africa. He added that the initiatives of Sheikh Khalifa boost solidarity among the world people and elevate the UAE image in the international charity arena in line with the course outlined by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Senegalese official appreciated the efforts of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) under chairmanship of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of Ruler in Western Region and Chairman of the RCA, in assisting the needy categories in Africa in general and Senegal particularly. He conveyed the regards of the Senegalese government and people to Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed when he met Dr Saleh Al Tayie, Acting Deputy Secretary General for Relief and Projects Affairs at the RCA at the RCA headquarters today, for his concern and sustained efforts to help the Senegalese people. The Senegalese official discussed with the RCA officials the possibility of relief programmes to assist those affected in the recent Senegalese floods, which displaced over 260, 000 people in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, and its environs, indicating that the flood left huge devastation. On his part, Al Tayie, said the humanitarian efforts in Senegalese are within the duties of the RCA towards the needy categories and those, stricken by calamities, pledging that the RCA would not spare any efforts to assist Senegal. The RCA projects implemented in Senegal over the last four years stood at over Dh9.2 million. WAM/MN
