WAM Dubai, 20th Oct. 2009 (WAM) -- The Friends of Cancer Patients Society (FOCP) has announced that, in cooperation with the Dubai Islamic Foundation, it has been able to provide 50 packages of Xeloda (an oral chemotherapy medication) worth AED 90,000 for patients at Dubai Hospital. One of FOCP's objectives is to provide medication for those in need, and the charity teamed up with Dubai Islamic Foundation, a non-profit charitable foundation and a subsidiary of Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), to do just this, in line with the Foundation's belief that collaboration between social institutions of is paramount in providing help to the community. Speaking of the initiative, H.E. Ameera Binkaram, President of the Board of Trustees at FOCP, said, "This initiative holds deep social and humane ideals which, through the collaborative work and support of the Dubai Islamic Foundation, we were able to make a reality, promoting a much-needed social responsibility within institutions active in the country". Abdul-Razzaq Al-Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Islamic Foundation, said, "It is important that public and private institutions work together to help those in need in our society, whether the help be social, financial or moral. The key here is to learn how to give, because giving to others leads to an improvement in your own personal life, which in turns filters through into your business life. We are also very happy to the smile on those patients' faces." Friend of Cancer Patients is a charity organization established under the umbrella of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in 2000, under the royal patronage of Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Honorary President of FOCP. The society's principal aims are spreading awareness and providing help and support for cancer patients. FOCP aims to raise awareness of cancer at all levels of society. Its activities include offering assistance to patients by providing essential medicines, offering one-to-one psychological relief sessions, monitoring patients' medical condition, shifting them to specialty hospitals, supplying monthly provisions to the patients' families, and providing financial aid for complex cancer treatment procedures conducted worldwide. The Dubai Islamic Foundation aims to support socially responsible initiatives and activities, and to collaborate with social institutions to provide help and support for society. The Foundation also aims to highlight Dubai Islamic Bank's role in providing social aid to UAE citizens and residents, and to provide a better life for patients and those in need. WAM/TF
