RCS provides urgent humanitarian assistance for IDPs in northern Yemen

WAM Abu Dhabi, Oct. 22, 2009 (WAM) -- The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) will deliver in the next two days an urgent humanitarian aid at a total amount of AED10 million to help cater for the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in northern Yemen. A number of people have been negatively affected by the ongoing military operations against some armed groups in the Sa'ada region of Yemen. The gesture was in implementation of the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the support of H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the follow up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Red Crescent Society. The aid, which includes food, medicines, other medical supplies and shelter materials, seek to alleviate the sufferings of the IDPs and others affected by the armed conflict. The RCS endeavors to strengthen its partnership with the Yemeni Red Crescent Society and the humanitarian organizations currently available on the ground in Yemeni to minimize the impact of the armed conflict on the displaced persons, estimated at about / 150 / thousand people. "The Authority is keen on alleviating the suffering of our brothers in Yemen, improving their living condition and standing by their side in their current ordeal," H.E. Ahmed Humaid Al Mazroui, Chairman of the RCA, said in a statement. Al Mazroui assured that the RCA's humanitarian efforts will go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the victims, adding that the gesture was part of its humanitarian commitment to enhance its presence in Yemen.
