Princess Haya opens WIL forum

Dubai, 26 Oct. 2009 (WAM) - Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, Wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, today opened the first Women in Leadership (WIL) forum, being held under her patronage at Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Education H.E. Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of State H.E. Reem Al Hashemi, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the Malaysian Prime Minister and senior officials.

In a speech delivered on her behalf by Reem Al Hashemi, Princess Haya said the 21st century had brought in sweeping changes for women in all fronts.

"With world-class educational facilities in place and larger political representation, we notice more understanding, acceptance and encouragement to women's capabilities in the Arab world and the UAE in particular," said Princess Haya.

Princess Haya patronised the WIL Achievement Awards ceremony aims to recognize women who have broken new ground in the business world and reward the leading personalities for their outstanding achievements in social and business arena.

The award for 'women empowerment'' category went to Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud, Chairman of the Kingdom Holding, while Heba Al Kharafi Award for Women and arts went to Dubai Ladies Club.

Salma Hareb was named 'Businesswoman of the Year' and the award for 'Leading Woman in Public Sector' was won by H.E. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade.

Abu Dhabi's Judiciary Department won the 'Best Employer for Women's Development', as Khalifa Fund for Women's Development clinched the 'Woman Initiative' and the 'Best Corporate Social Responsibility' awards.

Dr Ayesha Mohammed Abdullah, CEO, Dubai Healthcare City, was named as the Leading Woman CEO. The Leading Woman Chief Financial Officer (CFO) title was awarded to Dubai World CFO Maryam Sharaf and Fatima Al Jaber, COO, Al Jaber Group was chosen as the Leading Woman Chief Operating Officer (COO).
