Mohammed bin Rashid visits British Museum in London (updated)

WAM London, Nov 25th, 2009 (WAM)--Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, visited the British Museum in London, being dubbed as the top museum in the world. The museum was set up through will and efforts of Sir Hans Sloane, who collected over 70 museum pieces and paintings. Sloane, a gifted collector of antiquities, relinquished them to King George II of England, against 20, 000 sterling pounds. The museum was set up later after the approval from the parliament in 1753. Sheikh Mohammed toured a number of corridors and sections of the museum, which has more than 70 million pieces of historical value. The main station for the tour of Sheikh Mohammed was the Pavilion of Islamic world, which contains rare collections of the Islamic eras and ages, extending geographically from Spain to South East Asia. The pavilion includes the paintings, sculpture, decorative pots and coins. . Sheikh Mohammed lauded the Islamic heritage which left huge legacy on the contemporary arts, science and culture, as well as playing a role in bringing the civilisations together. WAM/MN
