WAM Abu Dhabi, Nov 29th, 2009 (WAM): Board Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) Ahmed Humaid Mazroui hailed the directives of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for strengthening the Authority to play its vital role in taking humanitarian aid to those affected by natural disasters and man-made conflicts across the world. Mazroui also praised the support given by HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces to the RCA and the ardent follow-up of RCA's work by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the western region and Chairman of the RCA. In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the occasion of the 38th National Day of the UAE Mazroui stressed that the RCA has achieved great success in carrying out relief operations around the world. He said that RCA's operations were one of the most important elements of the international response to minimize the impact of disasters and crises on the lives of the world population. This is clear from the size and value of the relief carried out by the Authority during the first nine months of the current year. Over AED 61.5mn was spent during this period on various relief operations in 35 countries in cooperation with other relief agencies. Some of the major operations of RCA were implemented in Gaza, devastated by Israeli aggression, followed by other countries that encountered humanitarian catastrophe like Somalia, Sudan and the Swat Valley in Pakistan, noted Al Mazroui.
