Sharjah Ruler attends opening ceremony for celebrating Doha as Capital of Arab Culture

WAM Doha, 28th Jan. 2010 (WAM) --H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, attended today a ceremony for launching Doha as the 2010 Arab Capital of Culture under the theme ''Arab Culture as a Homeland and Doha as a Capital''. Jerusalem was the 2009 Capital of Arab Culture.

In his welcome address, Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Qatari Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, said Qatar is well conscious of the important role it will play to preserve and protect all forms of tangible and intangible heritage from buildings, literature, and arts to values and traditions.

HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani launched events for Doha as Capital of Arab Culture for 2010.

The Arab Capital of Culture is an initiative undertaken by UNESCO under the Cultural Capitals Program to promote and celebrate Arab culture and encourage cooperation in the Arab region.
