Ministry of Environment bans importation of cloven hoof-animals and their products from Namibia

WAM Dubai, Apr 26th, 2010 (WAM)--His Excellency Dr. Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, issued today a ministerial decision, banning the importation of cloven hoof animals and their products from the South West African State of Namibia amid outbreak of foot and mouth disease. The first article of the resolution stated that the ban will be temporarily till further notice, while the second article of the resolution ordered prevention of movement of all cloven hoof animals originating from Namibia through the territory of the United Arab Emirates. In related development, the Quarantine and Food Safety departments at the ministry, have commenced coordination with the competent to implement this resolution to ensure health of livestock in the country. The decision follows a report from the World Organisation for Animal Health, on the appearance of the foot and mouth disease cases in Namibia. WAM/MN
