WAM Abu Dhabi, Aug 10th, 2011 (WAM)--The registration of candidates for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections will start from Sunday, August 14, 2011, at specified centres across the UAE. Registration is open through August 17, 2011, from 9 am to 3 pm.

The registration process can be undertaken at the following centres: Abu Dhabi Exhibition Centre - Conference Hall (A); Al Ain Municipality Theatre; the Western region - Madinat Zayed - Higher Colleges of Technology; Dubai World Trade Centre; Sharjah Cultural Palace; Ras Al Khaimah Cultural Centre - Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development; Umm Al Quwain Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development; Fujairah Trade Centre (Floor 6); and Ajman Executive Council General Secretariat.

Every member in the Electoral College is eligible to contest for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections provided he or she meets the constitutional requirements. The eligibility considerations include that the potential candidate must be registered in the Electoral College of one of the emirates; must not be less than 25 years old; must be of good character and reputation and must have never been convicted for an offence involving moral misconduct, unless his reputation has been rehabilitated in accordance with the law; and must be literate (having adequate knowledge of reading and writing).

Potential candidates must personally submit their nominations to the Committee in their respective Emirate along with presenting the following documents: identity card issued by the Emirates Identity Authority; Family Book; three recent colour photographs; certificate of good conduct addressed to the NEC; certificate pledging to stop their official work from the date of announcing the final list of nominees (August 28, 2011) to the date of adopting the final list of winners (September 28, 2011); certificate of resignation from employment for members of the judicial authority; registration fees of AED 1000, and nominee's Curriculum Vitae (optional).

On submitting the application, the potential candidate is given an identification number issued randomly by the nomination programme. This serves as an identification symbol in the Electoral College and for use in the electronic voting system.

According to the executive instructions of the Federal National Council (FNC) elections, the NEC will announce the preliminary list of candidates on August 20, while the final list of candidates will be announced on August 28 and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is September 21, 2011.
