Mauritanian President lays foundation stone of UAE-funded 15-megawatt solar power plant
WAM NOUAKCHOTT: Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a 15-megawatt solar power plant, a project funded by the UAE to provide for the annual demand growth in the country.
The project is in line with directives from His Highness Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
In a speech at the special ceremony, Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mines Taleb Ould Abdivall thanked the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed for the support extended to the Mauritanian people through this project.
The UAE is funding the construction of the plant at a cost of nine billion Mauritanian ouguiya.
He noted that the significance of the project which is being overseen by the Mauritanian President himself.
Head of Special Projects at Masdar Rashed Al Dhaheri affirmed that Masdar is implementing the project in accordance with the highest international standards to deliver 10% of electricity capacity in Mauritania and meet 6% of the country's total demand on energy.
Masdar is a renewable energy company based in Abu Dhabi.
