UAE calls Arab and African parliaments to promote moderate approach of their religions and cultures
2013-06-28 18:11:46
WAM Rabat, June 28th, 2013 - The UAE has urged Arab and African parliaments to present the moderate and tolerant approach of their religions to the other world cultures to dispel misunderstanding and extremism towards Arab, Islamic and African cultures.

In a working paper before the 13th Afro-Arab Parliamentary Conference in Rabat, Morocco, member of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC) Sultan Al Shamsi said Arab and African MPs were also demanded to promote the culture of peace, tolerance and understanding for greater cross-cultural and religious interaction.

At the session about the role of African and Arab Parliaments in ensuring the respect of religions and holy places in both regions and protecting the national cultures of the African and Arab populations in the face of the impacts of globalization, Al Shamsi also called on Arab and parliaments to exhort and encourage their respective governments to integrate all ethnic and sectarian groups in development plans to avert potential conflicts due to injustice, political exclusion and unequal sharing of resources and wealth.

The UAE MP added Arab and African parliaments were demanded to introduce legislations to combat hatred and sedition based on faith and culture through media organs, internet or social networks.

MPs of 26 Arab and African parliaments, assemblies and councils gathered in Rabat on 26-27 June and explored ways of promoting Afro-Arab cooperation to support their economies, in particular, the joint economic projects. They also discussed the role of African and Arab Parliaments in ensuring the respect of religions and holy places in both regions and protecting the national cultures.

Faisal Al Tunaiji, also FNC member, presented a paper on Arab-African cooperation in which he stressed the need for establishing research and information centres to promote investment opportunities.

The two regions, he said, needed to ease customs regulations to facilitate trade exchange and increase technical cooperation in trade policies.

He stressed the parliaments can play vital role in enhancing Arab and Africa economic cooperation by creating the proper legislative framework that guarantee implementation of proposed projects towards that goal.
