NMC holds coordination meeting with media free zones to discuss implementation of Cabinet resolution on media service fees
WAM ABU DHABI, July 7th, 2013 (WAM) -- The National Media Council (NMC), today held a coordination meeting with media free zones to discuss the implementation mechanism for Cabinet Resolution No. 12 of 2013, on the services provided by media free zones. The resolution specifically covers certain types of services provided by the NMC at the media free zones.
Chaired by Saeed Abdullah Al Darmaki, Executive Director for Media Affairs at NMC, and in the presence of representatives from the Abu Dhabi Media Authority and the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority, the participants reviewed the services covered by the resolution and appropriate mechanisms to implement them.
Al Darmaki said the new resolution reinforces the previous Cabinet resolution No. 10/70 of 2007, on regulating services at some media free zones, especially the need for an applicant to obtain clear written approval from the NMC before being issued any media licence for broadcast and telecast, issuance of newspapers, books and periodicals. He added that the balance of media activities could be exercised in accordance with laws and systems in this respect.
He noted that the participants reviewed the mechanism to levy fees against services provided to foreign correspondents at media free zones.
The resolution will become effective from July 30th, 2013, or after 60 days from the date of its publication in the official gazette. No licence will be renewed or issued after this date, except in accordance with the Cabinet resolution referred to above.
