WAM CANBERRA, 25th July 2013 (WAM)-- The UAE Embassy in Canberra, and the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) have launched the first phase of the iftar project which targets underprivileged families in Australia.
The project is funded by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Sharjah Charity International.
The iftar food and dates packages donated to beneficiaries in Sydney were delivered by Third Secretary at the UAE Embassy, Faisal Saif Al Mazrouie, to the representatives of Islamic centers and charities in presence of Hafez Kassem, the President of AFIC.
Kassem praised the Khalifa Foundation for its humanitarian efforts which reflect the noble values of social solidarity and compassion among Muslims during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The Embassy, AFIC and other Islamic bodies are implementing iftar projects in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
