UAE participates in High-Level Meeting on Human Rights
WAM NEW YORK, 3rd October, 2013 (WAM) -- The UAE has participated in the work of the High-Level Meeting on Human Rights, which was held on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly.
The nation was represented by Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organisation Affairs, and was attended by the Austrian President, Heinz Fischer, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jan Eliasson.
The High Commissioner for Human Rights said that political obstacles are considered one of the main reasons for poor implementation of the promotion and protection of human rights, and that it depends foremost on the political commitment of the Member States.
Ms. Pillay emphasised the importance of enhancing the partnership between the United Nations and its Member States in achieving and promoting human rights.
