WAM JEDDAH, 24th February, 2014 (WAM) -- The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, Iyad Amen Madani, has strongly condemned the assault on 21st February 2014 on the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, the seat of the Somali government, resulting in the death of scores of people including government officials.

Mr. Madani, who described the attack which targeted the country's leadership as "unjustifiable, unacceptable and aimed at destabilizing the nation", expressed his deep sadness over the loss of lives.

The Secretary-General, while restating the solidarity of the OIC with the government of Somalia under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, urged him not to relent in his efforts to combat all those who negate the values of the peaceful, tolerant and moderate religion of Islam.
