Tokyo, 20th May, 2024 (WAM) -- Tokyo stocks rose Monday morning, reported Kyodo News.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 559.54 points, or 1.44 percent, from Friday to 39,346.92.
The broader Topix index was up 33.27 points, or 1.21 percent, at 2,778.89.
Stocks climbed almost across the board, with the Nikkei benchmark rising above the 39,000 mark for the first time in over a month.
