LEIPZIG, 3rd July, 2024 (WAM) -- The Turkish national team has secured its place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Austria at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on Tuesday.
Merih Demiral opened the scoring for Türkiye in the first minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake by Austria. He then doubled Türkiye's lead in the 59th minute with a powerful header from a Burak Yılmaz cross.
Austria's Mikael Gregoritsch reduced the deficit in the 66th minute, but Türkiye managed to hold on for the win.
With this result, Türkiye sets up a quarter-final clash against the Netherlands, who earlier secured their spot in the last eight with a commanding 3-0 victory over Romania.
