HAINAN, 29th July, 2024 (WAM) -- The coastal city of Sanya, Hainan province, is experiencing significant advancements in the international cruise tourism sector.
According to China Daily, the China Ports and Harbors Association has indicated that the city achieved a significant milestone in the first half of the year, with international cruise passenger throughput reaching 54,624 passengers. This achievement establishes Sanya as the leading city nationwide in this category and highlights its growing prominence as a premier cruise destination.
In addition, the total inbound and outbound passenger throughput of both visiting and home port passengers in Sanya reached 59,228, securing the third spot nationwide.
Albert Yip, Director-General of the Sanya Tourism Board, said Sanya is set to collaborate with neighbouring cities and regions, such as the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, to develop multi-destination cruise products. The aim is to tap into shared tourist markets and build a comprehensive cruise industry chain.
Since 2019, Hainan has been on a mission to vitalise its cruise industry by introducing policies to foster growth and development in this sector.
