116-yr-old Japanese to be named world's oldest living person

TOKYO, 21st August, 2024 (WAM) -- Tomiko Itooka, a 116-year-old woman from the western Japan city of Ashiya, is in line to be declared the world's oldest living person by Guinness World Records, Kyodo News said Wednesday.

Born on 23rd May 1908, Itooka became a candidate for the title after the previous holder, Maria Branyas Morera, a 117-year-old from Olot in Catalonia, Spain, died Monday, according to the Gerontology Research Group.
