PARIS, 8th October, 2024 (WAM) -- Dr. Salem Al Neyadi, UAE Ambassador to the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), said that the UAE is making significant strides in fostering relationships with French-speaking countries, particularly through cultural and linguistic collaboration.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during the UAE's participation in the 19th Francophonie Summit in Paris, Al Neyadi highlighted the success of the UAE's participation in the event.
Reflecting on the UAE's engagement with the Francophonie, Al Neyadi noted that the UAE first became an observer member in 2010 and then an associate member in 2018. This progression, he explained, demonstrates the country's dedication to strengthening its international presence and deepening partnerships in culture, language, and economic cooperation for mutual benefit.
Al Neyadi stressed that the UAE's ties with Francophone countries go beyond economics and politics, noting that it has become a favoured destination for cultural and educational events promoting intercultural dialogue.
"Language and culture are at the heart of long-lasting international relationships," he said, adding that the UAE actively promotes French language education and fosters cultural exchange between Emirati and Francophone institutions.
Regarding the UAE's participation in the 19th Francophonie Summit, Al Neyadi said, “Our participation was successful at every level. It was an opportunity to solidify the UAE's international standing and exchange ideas with member countries.”
He also praised the wide-ranging participation of officials and dignitaries from across the world.
Al Neyadi stressed that cultural diplomacy is a cornerstone of the UAE's international strategy, and the Francophonie Summit served as another step toward reinforcing the UAE's cultural and diplomatic ties. He highlighted the UAE's efforts to promote cultural diversity and coexistence as part of its broader approach to international relations.
He reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to nurturing its relationships with Francophone countries through ongoing involvement in international organisations and the support of cultural and linguistic initiatives.
