GRINDAVÍK, Iceland, 21st November, 2024 (WAM) -- A volcano has erupted in Iceland for the seventh time this year, triggering evacuations in Grindavík and the Blue Lagoon after a state of emergency was declared.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office said the fissure appears to have extended to three kilometres in length, and the edge of the lava flow is approximately 700 to 800 metres from Grindavík Road.
The office also said the eruption was smaller than the previous one in August this year.
The eruption is the seventh since December and follows a period of heightened seismic activity in the region.
Iceland is home to 33 active volcanoes.
