Abu Dhabi’s HELM cluster to boost healthcare innovation, diversify economy

ABU DHABI, 29th April, 2025 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi’s new Health, Endurance, Longevity, and Medicine (HELM) cluster marks a major step in the emirate’s strategy to position itself as a global leader in healthcare and life sciences, aligning with the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 goals of economic diversification and resilience against future health challenges.

In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr. Fatma Al Mulla, Head of HELM, said that the cluster forms part of an integrated strategy led by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Department (ADDED).

She said the cluster reflects the emirate’s commitment to investing in knowledge-based sectors and attracting high-value investments, leveraging its advanced regulatory environment and infrastructure, as well as the momentum from Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week.

By 2045, it is projected to contribute AED94 billion to Abu Dhabi’s GDP, attract AED42 billion in investments, and create more than 30,000 specialised jobs.

The cluster will also tackle global health challenges, such as chronic diseases and an ageing population, through developing diagnostic technologies, speeding up clinical trials, and fostering international partnerships to deliver scalable health solutions which will have a major regional and global impact.

On the future of life sciences, Dr. Al Mulla said precision medicine and genomic analytics are expected to thrive amid global demographic shifts. HELM represents a proactive investment to meet rising healthcare demands with sustainable, preventive solutions, she said.

In terms of talent attraction, she said HELM will combine national skills development with the recruitment of global expertise through training programmes and research fellowships in partnership with UAE University and NYU Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Al Mulla emphasised that streamlined clinical trial approvals, flexible intellectual property protections, and Abu Dhabi’s supportive business environment position HELM competitively to attract top talent and expertise from around the world.
