China’s software revenue jumps 10.6% in Q1 to over 3 trillion yuan

BEIJING, 4th May, 2025 (WAM) - China's software and information technology services industry delivered a strong performance in the first quarter of 2025, with steady revenue growth, double-digit profit increases, and a positive shift in exports, highlighting the sector's continued resilience, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed.

In the first quarter, software business revenue reached 3.15 trillion yuan (about US$ 433 billion), marking a 10.6% increase compared to the same period last year, the data revealed on Saturday.
As reported by China Central Television (CCTV), the total profit of the industry reached 372.6 billion yuan (more than US$ 51 billion), marking an 11.6% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, software exports saw a positive growth, rising by 2.4% to US$ 13.1 billion.

Software product revenue grew steadily, totaling 753.6 billion yuan (about US$ 104 billion), up by 9.4% y-o-y, and accounting for 23.9% of total industry revenue.
Industrial software products saw 67.1 billion yuan (over US$ 9.2 billion) in revenue, growing by 7.1%, while basic software products generated 41.9 billion yuan (around US$ 5.7 billion), a 7.9% increase.

The information technology services sector maintained double-digit growth, with revenue rising by 11.0% to 2.08 trillion yuan (over 286 US$ billion) in the first quarter, comprising 66.1% of total industry revenue.
Cloud computing and big data services earned 354.0 billion yuan (about US$ 49 billion), up 11.1% y-o-y. Integrated circuit design revenue jumped 19.7% to 90.6 billion yuan (over US$ 12 billion), and e-commerce platform services saw an 8.4-% increase, reaching 248.2 billion yuan (over US$ 34 billion).

The information security sector also showed robust growth, with revenue from products and services rising by 8.6% to 48.1 billion yuan (over US$ 6.6 billion). However, embedded system software revenue grew at a slower pace, reaching 264.2 billion yuan (over US$ 36 billion), up by 10.5 percent y-o-y.

Regionally, the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions saw growth rates of 10.6%, 11.8%, 9.9%, and 10.9%, respectively. The eastern region alone accounted for 84.2% of the total national software business revenue.

Other key regions, such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region in the north and the Yangtze River Delta in the east, posted growth rates of 11.8% and 10.4%, respectively.
The top five regions for software business revenue -- Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Shanghai -- saw year-on-year growth rates ranging from around 8% to 14%. Specifically, Beijing grew by 11.8%, Guangdong by 8.2%, Jiangsu by 10.0%, Shandong by 12.4%, and Shanghai by 14.1%.
