BUCHAREST,18th May, 2025 (WAM) – Romanians cast ballots Sunday in a tense presidential runoff between a hard-right nationalist and a pro-Western centrist in a high-stakes election rerun that could determine the geopolitical direction of the European Union and NATO member country.
Voting starts at 7 a.m. (0400 GMT) and ends at 9 p.m. (1800 GMT), with exit polls to follow immediately.
The first round saw the hard-right candidate George Simion secure an impressive 40% of the vote against Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Danmayor, a champion of pro-Europe policies.
