Seven killed after bridge collapse, train derailment in Russia

MOSCOW, 1st June, 2025 (WAM) – At least seven people were killed and 66 injured when a highway bridge collapsed onto railway tracks, derailing an approaching train in Russia's Bryansk region that borders Ukraine, Russian authorities said early on Sunday.

The collapse occurred as a result of interference with the operation of transport, the press service of the Moscow Railway clarified.

Governor of the Bryansk Region Alexander Bogomaz, said 44 people were hospitalised, 22 are being examined as outpatients.

Three victims, including a child, are in serious condition. The injured child was transported to Moscow by air ambulance, he said as quoted by TASS.

Western Interregional Investigative Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said investigators are inspecting the scene of the incident, a set of investigative actions have been organised aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident,
