Earthquake of magnitude 5 strikes eastern Japan; no tsunami warning

TOKYO, 1st April, 2026 (WAM) -- An earthquake ​of magnitude ‌5 hit eastern Japan, authorities said on ​Wednesday, shaking buildings ​in the capital, but prompting ​no ​tsunami warning.

The epicentre ‌in the Ibaraki region was 50 ​km (31 ​miles) deep, the Japan ​Meteorological ​Agency said.
