Wall Street closes higher, S&P 500 hits record high

NEW YORK, 8th August, 2026 (WAM) -- The major US stock indices closed higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 hitting a record high and capping a strong week of gains.

Preliminary data showed the S&P 500 rising by around 46.48 points, or 0.60 percent, to 7,756.44 points, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 338.81 points, or 1.29 percent, to 26,690.62 points.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average also advanced 151.33 points, or 0.28 percent, to 54,036.43 points.
