NEW DELHI, 23rd August, 2026 (WAM) -- The Indian Coast Guard has sent two ships on a search and rescue mission after the cargo ship Ocean Winner sank off the coast of eastern India.
The maritime rescue authority in India said it lost contact on Saturday with the cargo vessel, which was sailing under the flag of Panama.
Coast Guard spokesperson Amit Uniyal said the ship had a 24-member crew on board, including 20 Chinese nationals, three from Myanmar, and one from Bangladesh.
The Coast Guard rescued two individuals who were aboard two liferafts, and search and rescue operations remain underway to locate the remaining sailors who were on board.
According to government sources, the Ocean Winner was carrying a cargo of iron ore bound for Singapore after departing from Paradip Port in eastern India on Thursday. It sank about 240 nautical miles off the port, and the cause of the sinking remains unknown.
