BEIJING, 23rd August, 2026 (WAM) -- A Chinese humanoid robot has broken the 100-metre sprint world record previously held by Jamaican track legend Usain Bolt during the opening of the World Humanoid Robot Games in China.
During the opening ceremony of the games in Beijing, a robot developed by the Chinese team "X-Humanoid" crossed the finish line in a record time of 9.39 seconds, eclipsing Bolt’s long-standing mark of 9.58 seconds.
Earlier at the event, another robot produced by Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor achieved an even faster time, recording 9.32 seconds.
The Honor robot, named "Blitz", previously broke the human world record for the half-marathon (~21 kilometres) in April, completing the distance in 50 minutes and 26 seconds.
