VATICAN CITY, 13th October, 2026 (WAM) -- Pope Leo XIV has undergone successful surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung after being diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma, the Vatican announced on Tuesday.
The 71-year-old pontiff was admitted to hospital earlier in the day for the removal of a lung tumour detected during a recent medical examination.
The Vatican said the operation lasted approximately 90 minutes and was completed without complications.
