ABU DHABI, 14th November, 2023 (WAM) – The Emirates News Agency (WAM) today signed cooperation agreements with China Daily newspaper, the Shanghai Media Group, and “The Paper” newspaper, affiliated with the Shanghai Press Group, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of news exchange, as driven by WAM's keenness on strengthening its partnerships with global media outlets and establishing an advanced and sustainable model of professional cooperation with them.
The signing was held on the sidelines of the 2nd Global Media Congress, which began today under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court.
The agreements were signed by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director General of the Emirates News Agency, Zhou li Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Daily Asia Pacific, Song Jiongming, President of the Shanghai Media Group, and LIU Yonggang, Managing Editor of the Paper, SUMG.
Under these agreements, the two sides will exchange news free of charge, with the Chinese media obtaining WAM’s daily news in Chinese, English or other languages for use and distribution on their platforms, while WAM will obtain the news materials of the Chinese media for use and distribution on its media platforms.
The two sides will also work to organise training programmes for media staff, including editors or technicians, to exchange expertise and enhance their skills.
On this occasion, Al Rayssi emphasised that the UAE and the People’s Republic of China are linked by well-established historical relations and a strategic partnership that has yielded many qualitative achievements in all fields.
Al Rayssi added, “Through this cooperation with the Chinese media, we look forward to establishing an advanced and sustainable model of constructive cooperation, which would contribute to enriching the media system in both countries and also work to highlight the journey of development and progress witnessed by the UAE and the People’s Republic of China at various levels.”
WAM Director General also pointed out that WAM is working to build a wide network of cooperation relations with its partners in the world, and looks forward to the participation of various Chinese media institutions in anticipating the future of the global media sector and exploring broader horizons for joint cooperation between these various institutions.
