BEIJING, 9th January, 2024 (WAM) -- China's tourism market experienced a boom over the three-day New Year's holidays that extended beyond the holidays.
In recent days, scenes of tourists enjoying ice and snow activities in Harbin and sunshine in Hainan have become popular topics in China and internationally, Global Times reported.
The high tourism activity was not limited to Harbin and Hainan. Other regions like Xinjiang also witnessed strong growth in tourist numbers and revenue. Experts predict the boom to continue through the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday about a month away.
The tourism surge illustrates the vitality of China's consumer market. It also paves the way for overall economic recovery in 2024, although further policy initiatives are required to tackle pressures.
During the three-day New Year's Day holidays, Harbin saw about 3.05 million tourist trips and a total tourism revenue of about 5.91 billion yuan ($832 million) - both are historical highs, according to local official data.
Xinjiang likewise benefited from the travel boom, with 195% and 424% year-on-year growth in trips and revenue respectively. Hainan saw 60%+ increases on both fronts, with bookings already rising for the Lunar New Year.
