Governments, industry must participate in a future governance structure for AI, says UN AI official

DUBAI, 14th February, 2024 (WAM) -- Carme Artigas, Co-Chair of the United Nations High-Level Advisory Board on Artificial Intelligence, stressed the importance of the World Governments Summit (WGS) events, which were attended by an exceptional number of heads of state and government.

Artigas added in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the final day of the WGS that: "There is no doubt that the Government Summit is a unique annual event where we discuss current challenges and look to the future."

She said that she participated in a panel discussion during the summit that discussed the future of global governance of artificial intelligence, stressing the importance and necessity of involving governments and industry together.

She pointed out that the United Nations Advisory Board on Artificial Intelligence recommended in a recently issued report a future governance structure for artificial intelligence, stressing the need for everyone to participate in this structure.

Artigas explained that she looks forward to the outcomes of the WGS inorder to advance the work of the artificial intelligence sector.

She stressed that the United Arab Emirates has succeeded in dealing professionally with artificial intelligence, pointing out its welcome to all initiatives launched by the state in this regard.
