BEIJING, 13th March, 2024 (WAM) - The Ministry of Commerce (MOC) in China has released an updated guidebook tailored for expatriates living and working in the country. This comprehensive resource, reported by China Central Television, is intended to provide valuable information and assistance to foreign professionals engaged in business activities in China.
The release of the 2024 edition of the guidebook comes after China pledged to expand high-level opening up and to strengthen efforts to attract foreign investment in a new government work report submitted at the recently-concluded "two sessions" meetings in Beijing, China’s most important annual political gathering.
The newly unveiled MOC guide, which came in collaboration with other relevant departments, details essential information relating to various aspects of foreigners' lives in China, from completing residence registration to obtaining bank cards and SIM cards, as well as covering matters such as social insurance and individual income tax.
Information is also provided on the various transportation options available in China, including navigating public transport and using ride-hailing apps. It notes foreigners are now able to purchase train tickets online through the English version of the official ticketing app of China Railway, known as the 12306 app, after completing identity verification, offering more convenient access to China’s expansive high-speed rail network.
It also guides China’s mobile payment systems – including the popular WeChat and Alipay platforms - which have fast become the dominant purchasing method in the country.
The MOC updates the guide on an annual basis pursuant to changes in relevant policies and procedures.
