Romania's insurance market grows over 10% in 2023

BUCHAREST, 21st March, 2024 (WAM) -- The Romanian insurance market grew by more than 10 percent in 2023, and the volume of gross written premiums exceeded RON18 billion, the President of the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF), Alexandru Petrescu, said on Thursday at the ‘Economic Trends 2024’ conference, organised by the European Women's Association.

In a statement carried by the Romanian news agency, Agerpres, Petrescu said “The markets that we regulate at ASF are stable and stability is the word I care about the most in my mandate. We have gross written premiums on insurance of over RON18 billion, an increase in two digits of over 10 percent. We have accumulated pension assets of almost RON132 billion. And there we have an increase of over 30 percent. The capital market reached a stock market capitalization of almost RON300 billion at the end of last year. We managed to mark the transition from a frontier market to an emerging market, at least from the perspective of FTSE Russell. The prospects are good from my point of view.”
