EU, US continue strong trade and technology cooperation

BRUSSELS, 5th April, 2024 (WAM) -- The European Union and the United States reaffirmed their strong commitment to enhancing transatlantic leadership in emerging technologies and the digital environment, facilitating bilateral trade and investment, and cooperating in the field of economic security.

This came during the sixth meeting of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council held today in the Belgian city of Leuven, attended by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, US Trade Secretary Gina Raimondo, and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, while the European Commission was represented by Executive Vice-Presidents Margrethe Vestager and Valdis Dombrovskis, joined by Commissioner Thierry Breton.

A statement issued after the meeting affirmed that accelerating digital and green transitions opens up opportunities for growth and innovation but also requires transatlantic cooperation towards a common approach.

The Trade and Technology Council serves as an American-European mechanism for discussing and coordinating key trade and technology issues in the context of growing geopolitical challenges.
