InSinkErator boosts sustainability efforts in UAE with focus on renewable energy

ABU DHABI, 17th April, 2024 (WAM) -- Mohamed Karam, Regional Manager at InSinkErator – a Whirlpool company, affirmed that the company is working to enhance its efforts in the field of sustainability and renewable energy in the UAE, in addition to developing strategic partnerships with local institutions to promote innovation and exchange expertise.

Karam added in statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit held in Abu Dhabi that "InSinkErator", since opening its regional headquarters in the UAE in 2011, has been taking important steps towards promoting the use of advanced technology in waste treatment in environmentally friendly ways, and investing in this field to contribute to the conversion of organic waste into energy, which contributes to reducing harmful carbon emissions.

Karam pointed out that InSinkErator continues to support local renewable energy initiatives and participate in projects to generate energy from waste-generated gases, which enhances its strategy to reduce carbon emissions and support the use of renewable energy in the UAE.

Karam said that the UAE has made great strides in the field of sustainability and clean and renewable energy as part of the country's vision to achieve a balance that emphasises air quality, water purity and conservation of natural resources, noting that the country, thanks to the large investments in clean energy technology and renewable energy projects, is moving steadily towards reducing dependence on oil and increasing the use of renewable energy sources in energy production in line with the National Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to increase the share of clean energy in the total energy mix to 50 percent by 2050 and reduce the carbon footprint of energy generation by 70 percent.

Karam noted the UAE's pioneering initiatives like Masdar City, designed to be environmentally friendly. UAE leads in solar energy with one of the world's largest solar power plants in Abu Dhabi.

He added that the UAE is a global model for sustainability and clean energy, working on projects like Dubai Metro to reduce carbon emissions.

He highlighted the significance of the World Future Energy Summit 2024 for sustainable energy and renewables, uniting global experts, innovators, and investors to present latest innovations. Karam emphasised the summit as a key platform for sharing modern energy-efficient technologies, reducing dependence on traditional sources, and promoting clean energy trends for global sustainability.
