ABU DHABI, 9th May, 2024 (WAM) -- Alia Abdul Salam, 21 years old, marked a historic achievement as the first Emirati female to participate in Formula 4 powerboat races and hold an International Driving Licence.
Her passion for speed, determination, and her father’s encouragement all contributed to starting her journey in the fast visitor races.
Commenting on the announcement, Alia said she looks forward to more success and to continuing to represent the UAE by participating in various powerboat international championships. She hopes that her experience will inspire Emirati girls who dream of crossing boundaries and achieving excellence in fields that men traditionally dominate.
Salem Al Rumaithi, member of the UAE Water Sport Federation, said, “Alia’s success in getting her international licence showcases that this field is no longer limited to men only and encourages more women to participate in marine sports in the future.”
Alia Abdul Salam comes from a family who historically worked in marine sports, as her father, Abdul Salam Fairooz, is one of the stars of the nineties in Formula 2 racing, having won many competitions.
Alia is expected to participate in the Scandinavian and Finland Champions in the summer.
