DUBAI, 30th May, 2024 (WAM) -- Several experts participating in the third panel discussion of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) for 2024 stressed that the stability of the economy and society is necessary to ensure sustainable development in the environment and climate.
The panel discussion, organised in collaboration with the Arabia CSR Network, the EmiratesGBC, the Clean Energy Business Council and the Swiss Business Council, aimed to harness the expertise of key industry leaders and navigate the discourse towards sustainable development and the impact economy and society plays in fostering the achievement of environmental goals.
Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Co-founder and Chairperson of EEG, said that this panel will help zoom on the same and explore the ways in which economy and societal instability are affecting environmental stability.
The panel featured key subject-matter experts who shared insights and perspectives, including Hanan Khalifa Al Thuwaini - Coordination and Follow-up Executive, Office of Undersecretary for Economic Studies and Policies Sector - Ministry of Economy; Layth Dwairi - Co-Founder and COO of Tathmeer Agro Tech; Dina Storey - CEO & Co-Founder of Optimum Green Ventures; and Dr. Salam Sharif – Director of Advocacy at Dubai Chambers for Recycling Business Group.
The panel addressed key questions surrounding factors hindering sustainable progress, serving as a platform for stakeholders to navigate challenges in the climate sphere. The session addressed several important points: 1. Understanding the Impact of Global Turmoil, Examining the Suitability of Development Programmes, 3. Assessing the Feasibility and Pragmatism of Future-proofing Economic Processes, 4. Navigating Political Landmines, and Addressing Poverty as a Multi-Faceted Challenge.
EEG designed, developed and executed the panel discussion to address several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG #1 No Poverty, SDG #2 Zero Hunger, SDG #3 Good Health and Well being, SDG #4 Quality Education, SDG #6 Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG #7 Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG #8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG #9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastuction, SDG #10 Reduced Inequalities, SDG #11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG #12 Responsible Consumption & Production, SDG #13 Climate Action and SDG #17 Partnership for the Goals.
The session concluded with a lively interactive Q & A session where the speakers and members of the audience, including industry business leaders, government officials, world bodies, students from high schools & universities, educators and the media.
