11,000 Palestinian students martyred, 500 schools, universities bombed in Gaza, West Bank

GAZA, 17th September, 2024 (WAM) -- The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education reported that 11,001 students have been martyred and 17,772 injured since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the West Bank on 7th October.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry stated that the number of students martyred in Gaza since the beginning of the aggression has exceeded 10,888, with 17,224 injured. In the West Bank, 113 students were martyred, 548 injured, and 429 arrested.

The Ministry also noted that 529 teachers and administrative staff have been martyred, with 3,686 injured in both Gaza and the West Bank. Additionally, more than 129 have been arrested in the West Bank.

Furthermore, 362 government schools, universities, and university-affiliated buildings, along with 65 facilities belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), were bombed and damaged in Gaza. Among these, 124 suffered severe damage, and 62 were destroyed. In the West Bank, 69 schools and 5 universities were raided and vandalised, while 133 government schools in Gaza have been used as shelters.

The Ministry emphasised that 718,000 students in Gaza remain unable to attend their schools and universities since the conflict began.
