TOKYO, 18th September, 2024 (WAM) -- Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Wednesday proposed electing a successor to outgoing Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the start of an extraordinary parliament [Diet] session on 1st October, Kyodo News reported on Wednesday.
The ruling party will elect its leader on 27th September, who is certain to become prime minister, given that both houses of parliament are controlled by the ruling coalition. The new premier must be endorsed by both chambers of Diet.
Further details, including the length of the parliament session, will be worked out under the next prime minister.
