TOKYO, 1st October, 2024 (WAM) -- Japan's parliament formally elected ruling party leader Shigeru Ishiba as prime minister on Tuesday, Kyodo News reported.
Ishiba, who was elected president of the Liberal Democratic Party last week, was endorsed by both the lower and upper house. The confirmation sets the stage for a general election on 27th October. The previous election was held in October 2021.
