India manages to reduce railway accidents by 70% in 10 years: Minister

KOLKATA, India, 2nd October, 2024 (WAM) -- India has managed to reduce railway accident by around 70 percent in the past 10 years, Asian News International (ANI) quoted Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw as saying here on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters about the railway accidents in the country, Vaishnaw said, “We are trying to find the root cause of any accident and are trying to resolve structural and systematic issues. If we look at the situation 10 years ago, there were 171 accidents per year, and now it has come down to just 40 per year, and is also reducing significantly every year. Accidents have been reduced by more than 60 to 70 per cent.”

He said the situation is improving with the advanced training practices of employees and adoption of new technologies.
