ABU DHABI, 8th October, 2024 (WAM) -- The Ministry of Culture hosted a delegation from the Emirates Journalists Association at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. This meeting provided a platform to explore collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing cultural initiatives and promoting the significance of tangible and intangible heritage in strengthening the UAE’s national identity.
Mubarak Al Nakhi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, welcomed the delegation, led by Fadila Abdullah Al Muaini, Chairperson of the UAE Journalists Association, along with board members Mohamed Al Tunaiji and Hasan Omran. The discussions focused on how the two entities can collaborate to support the ministry’s diverse programmes and initiatives.
The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation opportunities between both parties. Discussions centred on promoting the UAE’s cultural efforts on regional and international platforms, highlighting the need to sustain cultural and creative industries while nurturing local talent. The meeting also addressed the vital role that media institutions play in raising awareness of issues related to both tangible and intangible heritage and their impact in amplifying the ministry’s initiatives in this critical area.
During the meeting, the delegation received a comprehensive overview of the Ministry of Culture's initiatives to enhance the UAE's cultural and creative industries. One key project highlighted was the National Grant Programme for Culture and Creativity, which reflects the UAE's commitment to developing and sustaining these sectors. Additionally, the delegation learned about the ministry's successful initiatives that contributed to the UAE's election to UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2024-2028 term. This recognition underscores the country's commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage through various significant projects.
Fadila Al Muaini provided an overview of the Emirates Journalists Association's activities and programmes, emphasising its efforts to support journalists and elevate Emirati journalism as a true and authentic voice of the UAE and the broader Arab world. She highlighted the association's dedication to raising the cultural and professional standards of journalists, nurturing local talent, and encouraging their active participation in the field.
