DUBAI, 8th October, 2024 (WAM) -- Dubai Police airport security officials and strategic partners recently convened to discuss the future of civil aviation security at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), which is set to become the world’s largest with a projected capacity of 260 million passengers.
The panel discussion was organised by the General Department of Airport Security, in collaboration with the Future Foresight Centre and the Corporate Development Office for Ports Affairs, per directives of Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
Held at THUKHER Club, the discussion aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who recently approved the designs for a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed also instructed the immediate commencement of construction, costing AED128 billion. The airport will be five times the size of Dubai International Airport (DXB), with plans to relocate all operations there over the coming years.
The session, titled “Envisioning the Future of Al Maktoum International Airport – The Largest Airport in the World”, focused on three major themes: strategic infrastructure planning, analysis of future trends, and the integration of smart technologies.
Brigadier Hamouda Belsuwaida Al Amri, Director of the General Department of Airport Security, emphasised the importance of the session in his opening remarks. He explained that the aim was to share insights and ideas that would shape the future of civil aviation security. The objective is to address challenges collectively, embrace rapid developments, and forecast future events based on data analysis. Al Amri stressed the importance of making decisions today that would pave the way for a promising and prosperous future.
He added, “We stand together to face all challenges, plan, work, and succeed, no matter the circumstances, ensuring the continuity of our operations. With the dedication of our skilled workforce and our commitment to investing in them, we are confident in our ability to secure a bright future. Integrating smart systems and strengthening infrastructure will play a critical role in securing our airports.”
Al Amri highlighted the vital role of airports as global hubs and the need to promote safety and security to foster cultural, intellectual, and economic exchange. He noted the importance of adapting to rapid technological advancements and implementing sustainable solutions to enhance the efficiency of operations and the overall passenger experience.
He expressed his hopes for a productive discussion, where participants could offer ideas and raise questions that would contribute to shaping a better future for civil aviation security. The session’s objectives focus on strategic infrastructure planning, analysis of future trends, and smart technologies.
Colonel Dr. Hamdan Al Ghassia, Director of the Future Foresight Centre at Dubai Police, underscored the significance of the panel discussion. He noted that it offered an opportunity to generate ideas and proposals to address future challenges and ambitions for Al Maktoum International Airport. The aim is to present forward-thinking initiatives that contribute to long-term improvements in civil aviation security, in line with Dubai Police’s strategic vision and the government’s plans for this critical sector.
