Italian hotel employment reaches record high in 2023

ROME, 9th October, 2024 (WAM) -- The Italian hotel sector has experienced a significant rebound following the downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. A record-breaking 224,026 workers were employed on average in 2023, with a peak of 313,506 employees in July, according to a survey conducted by the hoteliers' association Federalberghi based on INPS data.

According to the Italian news agency (ANSA), the research was carried out in cooperation with national tourism agency EBNT and presented at the TTG Travel experience event.

“The record employment figure has never occurred in the sector's history,” said Bernabò Bocca, President of Federalberghi.

"The previous peak of 210,132 workers was in 2019, the year before the pandemic. "Youths and women represented the majority of employees" with foreign workers "giving an essential contribution", he said.
